lyrics

I'm a reporter performing amongst the crowds
I live the minstrel show and overthrow the frowns
Turned upside for these media moguls
While inner city kids are busy doing the bogle
And I've got these vocals I'm not earning a pound
And then you get someone approach you and they turn it around
Tabbard or a gown you hear that jingling sound
I've got no money for your honey-pot I'm thinking aloud
How come you never drown in the sorrows your selling me
Centrepiece of the town and now you've found a new enemy
It's energy wasted could've been more productive
Plight in the face of the countries we're fucking
Advertising space is what we grew up in
And urban isn't ghetto enough for the headlines
Everybody kill until they care for our suffering
Or get a celebrity to open a phone line

Lift me up
I'm struggling to breathe
Your reasons for being here are not at all obvious
Lift me up
I'm stuck in debris
Your bleeding heart sympathies oh god it's so obvious

Hey kids
I'm a no show socialist my devotion is emotionless
And focussed totally on self promotion no one notices
I made soft focus promos of some helpless homeless kids
That cut to close ups of my famous face the spotlight focusses
I fake ferociousness with campaign troops who
Play on your heart strings with champagne flutes
I tailor quotes to the popular propaganda
And piss at forest fires just to get my cock on camera
I throw banquets for the starving matchsticks at a tidal wave
I'm drastic and alarming til my pictures on the title page
Always ready to weigh in I'm watching my waist line
Feeding victims afflicted with famine for face time
I will support and fund causes if it pays to
But only if they make news my CD's on the way soon
These dying kids are way cute I'll keep one if you stay tuned
This world's fucked but oh what luck celebrities will save you

Lift me up
I'm struggling to breathe
Your reasons for being here are not at all obvious
Lift me up
I'm stuck in debris
Your bleeding heart sympathies oh god it's so obvious

Soon enough we'll all be dead
So though I hate the talking heads on charity drives
Who save the walking dead
I'm still happy with the results though it might be cynical
And somewhat unlikely to provide a miracle
Still every little helps I guess that's the point
When celebrities with wealth give hugs to little boys
Who can't afford to eat
Your publicity pretends to be philanthropy
I guess the means justify the ends

I used to work for charity haggling for your gift aid
Racking up crap salaries that'll be where the fair trade
Defies gravity in the weight of all your arguments
Parliament's expenses are arduous at the heart of this
Targeting harvested funds it makes it our business
Bear witness to the piggy banks thankful for forgiveness
It starts at home but the four walls you'll forfeit
Awkwardly raising roofs at the small price of a guilt trip

Lift me up
I'm struggling to breathe
Your reasons for being here are not at all obvious
Lift me up
I'm stuck in debris
Your bleeding heart sympathies oh god it's so obvious
